Kuala Lumpur International Airport ( KLIA )… the future of Malaysia

As of year 2008 . This airport won second place after Incheon ,South Korea as best airport in the world !

If you are considering air travel to Malaysia. KLIA will have my vote.

Coming to Malaysia via KLIA is just like looking at Malaysia past ,present and future.

While your plane circling the Sepang area, you could see the palm oil plantation. That was Malaysia most valuable commodity. Its reflect this country past.

Coming closer , you will see the housing estate of Sepang and the modern Malaysia expressway. This is Malaysia at present.

Once you landed at KLIA. You will … oh after a long walk to the Malaysia immigration. You will noticed the friendliness of the officers.

This is MALAYSIA ! Past , present and will always be the future !

“ Selamat Datang ke Lapangan Terbang Antabangsa Kuala Lumpur”

That’s means “ Welcome to Kuala Lumpur International Airport”

This is one of my favorite airports. My only complaint is that the area is huge! And the food does not really up to our Malaysian taste buds.

The airport adopted a concept of “airport in the forest and forest in the airport”. The natural environment of the airport is transformed to functions and activities that continue to enhance nature.

The abundant forest areas will be preserved and transformed into an environment park containing recreational facilities

Designed to be a regional hub, the KLIA is built with features that allow flexibility for future expansion, well into the next century.

The information I got was that this airport planned to include hiking trails for jet-lagged travelers, golf courses, a theme park, a shopping center, hotels, a wetlands nature preserve.

Amazing!

However, until now I only see more duty free and restaurant sprouting up at this airport.

When flying into this airport, noticed the surrounding land area is so huge. Because there is sufficient land and capacity to develop facilities to handle up to 100 million passengers a year, four runways by the year 2020!

Airside Transit Hotel

There is one thing which is unique in KLIA. The Airside Transit Hotel which located at Satellite “A” building.

This hotel is to serve transit passenger to stay and rest before the next flight.

As it is located in the airside area, passengers do not have to go through the inconvenience of the check out with the immigration, baggage collection and perhaps paying passenger service charges.

Check out the facilities:

~ 80 well furnished rooms with attached bathroom, television and in-room safe.

~ 24-hour reception.

~ Gymnasium.

~ Lounge Bar Café.

~ Shower facilities.

~ Spa and sauna.

Here are the rate for usage of the facilities which I obtained in year 2007:

~ Shower rate is RM20 per person.

~ Gym and Shower rate is RM30 per person.

~ Sauna and Shower rate is RM30 per person.

~ Internet charge is RM35 per hour per person.

You may want to check the room rates too, very much affordable. And yes, this was year 2007 rates:

The room charges are based on per block rate of 6-hours. ~ Standard room-Myr 140 .

~ Deluxe room-Myr 200.

~ Superior room-Myr 160.

~ Suite room -Myr 230.

~ An extra bed will cost RM30 (maximum 1 additional person for deluxe room).

~A charge of RM20 per hour up to a maximum of 9 hours only will be levied for additional hours of stay.

Double rates (2 blocks) applicable for stay between 10 - 12 hours.

Now, hope you will feel fresh to board another flight and vote KLIA for best airport again for coming year !

Any hotels near the airport?

There are a few hotels within 10-15 km radius from KLIA. Such as Empress Hotel, De Palma hotel, Concorde, Shang-ri La and Marriott Putrajaya.

Enjoy the stay in the Federal Administrative Capital of Malaysia, Putrajaya. This hotel is approximately 10 km from KLIA.

In addition, I will highly recommend you to stay at Putrajaya and enjoy your short stay in Malaysia. This is practical things to do if you are in transit.

Alternatively, you can put up at Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport. This is a five-star deluxe airport hotel located adjacent to KLIA

You may want to check out the map of Malaysia before coming here .
